This presentation on Cultural Solutions for US/Brazil Collaborations was such fun--I got to collaborate with Orlando Kelm. We talked about how to understand the kinds of cultural differences that show up in intercultural partnerships, using examples from Orlando's personal experience.

Teaching in the 2017 Global Business Leadership Institute was a fabulous experience! For this intensive program hosted by McCombs, students from top business schools around the world collaborate on international teams and learn to manage cultural difference and develop skills in leadership, teamwork and corporate strategy. It’s a privilege to experience their commitment and guide them towards personal growth and business success, and it’s reassuring to know that business leaders of the future on four continents have these remarkable intercultural skills.

As part of my work as a Visiting Faculty member of the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Diplomacy Institute, I conducted a workshop for field officers from Commerce and the State Department. I love workshops because they give me a chance to get into using cultural analysis to solve problems, and presenting to such a knowledgeable audience was so exciting. They had great examples and stories to share.

It was such an honor to present in Washington, DC to federal field officers and officials as a member of the Visiting Faculty of the Commercial Diplomacy Institute of the U.S. Department of Commerce. I greatly enjoyed introducing The Culture Solution and sharing strategies for helping American companies create successful international partnerships. I also had a chance to interview several experienced field officers. I’ll use them to create a series of cases of successful intercultural problem solving to illustrate the cultural principles in my book.

I really enjoyed creating a webinar for the “Knowledge To Go” webinar series for University of Texas alumni. This presentation gave me an opportunity to get the word out about ways to avoid damage from cultural difference in international business.

It was great fun to speak at the Texas-EU Summit. My friend and colleague Sharon Schweitzer and I described ways to build and maintain international relationships to an audience of exporters from Texas and Europe. The session was moderated by Liz Alexander and sponsored by the Center for Global Business where I am Associate Director.

The Culture Solution was profiled in the McCombs Today newsletter. This article does a good job of describing the way the ARC System helps businesspeople identify and adapt to a new work environment. April 14, 2017
I did a podcast interview with Nerd Stalker. This was really fun. Nerd Stalker is an online resource with 12K circulation. They cover various aspects of technology, the internet and social media and offer resources and information for people working in technology. Tech industries tend to have culturally diverse workforces, and of course outsourcing is a huge international undertaking, so there was a lot to talk about. |

I was delighted to have an article published by TLNT Magazine. TLNT is an online magazine with a 232K circulation that provides solutions for people working in human resources and the HR industry. Cultural difference is a huge issue for HR managers trying to equip their management and employees for international projects and assignments, and the article offers ways to help managers recognize and accommodate cultural tendencies.

What an honor to be invited to do a talk on The Culture Solution in the Altman Program in International Studies and Business at Tulane University, my alma mater. This program is helping students integrate cultural learning into study abroad activities. It was truly inspiring to speak to this group and learn about what they’re doing.
